Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 08/25/2010

Number: 250

September 2
There are about 150 to 200 monarchs roosting in our neighbors yard tonight. There are only a couple in my trees. It is just lucky that my husband spotted them where they are tonight, because they are not visible from our yard. I wonder if there have been some there when I have had them in my yard too (on other nights)and I just didn't know that they were there??

September 1
There were about 75 to 100 monarchs in several clusters on a couple of different maple trees in our yard overnight (9/1). We had rain, wind, thunder and lightening overnight. When I checked on them this morning though (9/2) they were still there and looked fine.

August 31
The monarchs have been hanging around! I think that they didn't want to fight the strong winds that we had blowing from the Southwest for a few days. On Monday around noon there were about 100 of them still in our yard. They hung around last night, through the rain storm that we had. There were some around today, but tonight (Tuesday the 31st) when I went out with a flashlight, they are all gone.

August 27
We have a lot of monarchs roosting in our yard (and a few in the neighbors tree just next to us) last night (8/27). I would estimate about 200 to 250 of them. This was on Friday eve, August 27th. I didn't look for them the night before, but my husband told me that when he was in the yard to mow the lawn in late morning on Thursday the 26th, there were many there, he thought about 50 ?, could be a low estimate. So they must have still been there from Wed. eve (8/25). I will keep watch for them now. They are so beautiful!!
