Several sugar maples have begun to sport their autumnal hues of deep oranges and rich golds. The juncos and chickadees have returned to our bird feders from the timber in earnest now. The last time I heard the rose breasted grosbeak announce his metallic clink arrival at our bird feeders was this past Saturday, the 28th. I think he's moved on. The local squirrels have been raiding our 4 hickory nut trees, stockpiling food for the approaching winter, as well. No doubt, autumn is on our doorstep.
