Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/31/2010

Number: 10

11am CST; sunny/overcast, 85F, light breeze, not terribly humid. Early morning had a thunderstorm move through the city with quite a bit of rain, some wind. Was concerned what this would mean to the remaining 10 butterflies. Well...good news! After a slow start (nothing at 10am), when i returned home at 11am my 10 butterflies that have been lingering behind were out feeding on the liatris. No tattered wings so they must have found safe hiding last night. The rain was welcomed as it was getting dry around Minneapolis; now there will be small stashes of water for the monarchs to drink and mudding for any males. So far the liatris blossoms are holding out and it looks like they might have another 5-7 days in them. Tomorrow temps expected in upper 70's; will report if the drop pushes the monarchs southbound.
