Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/31/2010

Number: 1

I have 4 feeders out on the back railing, each one about 12 inches from the next. My feeders are on the north side of the house and there is a large, orange Kubota tractor parked a few feet away. For the last 2 weeks there has been a heavy concentration of hummers at the feeders. Yesterday (8/30/10) I was able to easily count 17 feeding at one time. Today there is one easily identifibly different female here. She is very aggressive and depending on several photos found on the web, she is either a Rufous or Broad-tailed female. Clear rufous on the back. Some females make no noise while flying or hoovering; some the ususal buzz and atleast one makes a loud "whirring" sound while flying. I am able to sit eye level with feeders and about 2 and a half feet away.
