Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/30/2010

Number: 1

Spent a bit of time east of Toronto this morning gathering large caterpillars (boy, can they hide themselves well under of behind a milkweed leaf!).

Discovered a new 50 acre site along the north shore of Lake Ontario and entered with the blessing of the owners. Goldenrod in full bloom, along with clover, Joe-Pye weed, narrow-leaved goldenrod, and many other nectar sources for the adults that were heading west, but stopping in what had formerly been farm land, now abandoned. With narrow pathways mowed through this amazing site, it will be a great source for capturing migrating adults. Milkweed too old and tough here for caterpillars.
