Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/01/2010

Number: 1

The weather here in east Texas has been hot all summer. Mostly 90 to 105 degrees and sunny. Although we are on the lake,we are shaded by pine trees. Lots of vegetation here for the hummys.

We have had 1 adult female ruby, 3 young rubys and 1 adult ruby.

They arrived the last week in June.
Three days ago, just before a rain storm, 2 young males,1 adult female and 1 adult male left.
Now we have just the one young male left. Its in the low 90s now.
He has been bugging hard in the mornings and drinking nectar hard during the day this past week. So, I feel he will be leaving soon.

I love east Texas, but I sure do miss my little cove in Conroe!
We would get up to 30 hummies there!
But after the devastation of hurricane IKE, we just could not take it anymore! Over 50% of the birds in our cove lost their loves that year. Only two hummys lost theirs.

We until next spring..happy humming all!
