I saw at least ten monarchs flying across the roads as I drove my bus route around town today. They appeared to be migrating.
Since I'm out 5 days a week driving in and out of town and am ALWAYS looking, I have a good sense of when things change. The monarchs were tremendously abundant in the country ditches this summer but it wasn't until today that I saw what I perceive as the beginnings of a true migration. My observation time: I was watching for about 2 hours and 0 minutes.
