It's been really hot, humid and windy from the SW for the past week. A cold front went through last night making for GREAT monarch watching today. I went out on our boat to the middle of White Bear Lake to count migrating monarchs. I was NOT disappointed!
With light winds from the NW and partly cloudy skies, I counted 173 monarchs in 2 hours flying from the NNE to SSW. It was AMAZING! Then when I landed the boat on the south shore, there were another 35-40 monarchs on the beach. I've never seen this many monarchs in this area since I've been watching for the past 8 years.
