Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/31/2010

Number: 1

Released seven home raised Monarchs from school today.

September 3
I have to admit it is very time consuming to clean and feed those caterpillars three times a day- about 70% have gone to chrysalis, so it only took me 35 minutes before school this morning! I will have over 100 when it's over this year. Each day I carry my Monarch basket to school with jars of all stages to school, and then bring some empty jars home from those released. I was chosen Teacher of the Year this past Monday for our town, so there was a nice article that mentioned the Monarchs. I'll attach the link. Hopefully, people will become more aware of their plight, especially this year after the devastation in Mexico last February. My students say the sweetest things when we release them. "Goodbye; safe trip; be careful;" and the other day I said, "Godspeed" and that opened up a whole discussion!
