We have had tons of butterflies of all kinds here in our area this summer. We have had more monarchs than usual, as well. We haven't seen any adults this week, but there are lots of fresh eggs on young milkweed plants, and lots of caterpillars. In fact, caterpillars completely stripped a small patch of annual milkweed two weeks ago. The plants are starting to put out new leaves, and each clump of leaves has an egg. (There were over 110 caterpillars on this small patch of 27 plants.) One problem we have now is lack of fresh, tender milkweed leaves. There are eggs and caterpillars on tiny plants. I hope the plants grow fast! The plants are shared with orange aphids and another type of caterpillar, so food is a little scarce. My observation time: I was watching for ___ hours and ___ minutes.
