I have observed a dozen monarchs flying in the air the last few days. They have been at about human level, not too high. I suspect they are migrators that have come down from farther north, as the numbers I am seeing is increasing compared to the rest of the summer.
I usually bring a few caterpillars into my classroom. Three have successfully made chrysalises, three have died. They did not complete the caterpillar stage - hung in "j's" but died before changing to the chrysalis. Not sure why. . . My observation time: I was watching for ___ hours and __5_ minutes.
