Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/03/2010

Number: 1

A female paid a visit to my Asclepias Incarnata patch a few minutes ago. She flew around the plants for a few minutes, then visited several flowers for a sip; then she began to lay eggs - big time. I watched her lay 30+, and as is typical, she would lay only one egg on an Asclepias stalk, then move to another, then another, This egg laying process will give her caterpillars more plants upon which to munch since they are not crowded; unlike so many other butterfly species.

I could have netted her for tagging, but since she is fertile, she is a pre-migration Monarch, but her eggs will become the migratory hatch. I will tag them. My observation time: I was watching for ___ hours and ___20 minutes.
