Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/05/2010

Number: 50

Monarch roosts observed on my property. The first around 2:00 P.M. on a hybrid poplar contained 50+ individuals. It dispersed after about 25 minutes. Two hour later another roost was noticed on a Manitoba Maple tree, and it also dispersed before nightfall.

Conditions: cool (after the recent heat wave), with temperature bear 20 C, windy (20kph gusting to 40) with a mixture of sun and cloud.

The moarchs were on the lee sides of the trees when roosting.
