Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/05/2010

Number: 30

September 6, 8:15 am, in my backyard, hanging in clumps on my pine trees. 10-15 in flight, 30+ hanging in clumps. Perhaps they've been attracted by the mountain ash tree in my yard? The berries seem to be brilliant red and drawing the attention of birds as well. The monarchs seem oblivious to my presence or that of my dogs (Max is playing ball right underneath them). My house is about 100 metres from Lake Ontario.

Editor's Note: We dated this roost sighting for Sept. 5, the night the roost formed.
