We were hiking the Splash Dam Trail looking for birds butterflies& wild flowers. We came to & open field by the water. The field was about 2 acres or more of 2nd growth Common Milkweed. We fanned out & started counting Monarch Catterpillars most were last instars big &fat.When we got to 103 we stopped counting. None of us ever came across something like this before.We were 3 happy hikers watching them eat& watching some of them leaving the plants to go into the phase. My observation time: I was watching for __1_ hours and __40_ minutes.
