Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/06/2010

Number: 1

I found a monarch caterpillar today. He was in one of my outside potted plants, and when I watered it I saw him squirming in the soil. This is such an unusual year. I have been raising caterpillars and releasing butterflies for years, and have never had caterpillars this late in the summer. Nor have I ever had this many. So far I have released 34 monarchs. Right now I have one in chrysalis, two that are j'd, and two caterpillars still eating. My milkweed is almost all dead, but I have found a couple of plants that still look healthy. In addition to these, I gave two caterpillars to our public library so the school classes that visit could watch them. This is an amazing year!
