Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/06/2010

Number: 100

I was sitting on our enclosed porch at approximately4:15 p.m., when I noticed butterflies (orange/black) that I realized were Monarchs. They were settling in large groups on the branches of some of the trees in our yard. I have never seen them do this before. Since it was a first, I went to the Internet and connected with your site where you describe the nesting of Monarchs on their way south as part of their migration. It was so awesome a sight, I had to let you know what I had seen - a first for me My observation time: I was watching for __1_ hours and ___ minutes.

Editor’s Note: We are estimating a minimum of 100 monarchs based on observer’s estimate of “large groups.”
