Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/06/2010

Number: 24

September 17
The Monarchs have not really roosted again since that windy day, but our butterfly gardens are loaded. Routinely I estimate 40-50 Monarchs nectaring. Makes me wish I had ordered more tags. I just spent a joyful half hour tagging wild monarchs, but need to save the remaining tags, as we have 22 chrysalis' still hanging in the Nature Center. It's been a great year for Monarchs!

September 06
It is extremely windy here today, and I've noticed dozens of monarchs in the trees around our Nature Center. They fly out in swooping waves and then back into the trees.

It was really windy here and every gust would blow a cloud of monarchs out of the trees (that's how I found them) and then they would scurry back into the cover........

Editor’s Note: We are estimating a minimum of 24 monarchs based on observer’s estimate of “dozens.”
