My husband said there were over 100 Monarchs flying in the Amana, IA timber (18 mi east of Marengo). My brother said he had around 60 roost in his apple tree the night before in Blairstown, IA 10 mi north of Marengo). I only observed 3 stop over in my flowers. My swamp milkweed did not have hardly any larvae on it this year- only around 6. The town of Marengo sprays for mosquitoes- I wonder if that has anything to do with it? I see females flying laying eggs-- but poor caterpillar observations.
Editor's note: Reported in PEAK and Roost.
