Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/06/2010

Number: 1

A large group of Monarchs were migrating through St. Ignace near the Mackinaw bridge and crossing the straits to lower Michigan on Sept. 6th. They were flying through all morning and afternoon. You could always see at least 20 or more if you looked around. Mostly they were alone or in pairs, but sometimes you could see groups of five or six together. There was a constant stream of new butterflies to replace the ones that passed you by, and they never let up all the time I was there. I saw hundreds of Monarchs if not close to a thousand that day. My observation time: I was watching for a combined 3 hours and 30 minutes both in the morning and afternoon.
