Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/07/2010

Number: 1

I saw several hummers today. The one I saw most frequently was a female I believe. If not, it was a juvenile. It came to eat at the feeder several times and was challenged much less than usally happens. I am thinking that the males might have left to migrate already. I was observing for about forty minutes. Two did eat from two different feeders at the same time but I only saw the colors of the juvenile/female..I think it is a beautiful clear bright green female. This bird was also guarding the feeder, which is why I think the dominant male must be gone. I did see some dogfighting in the air, but not as much as has been happening in the last month. I heard lots of hummer talk in the air when gardening, so there are definitely several around. Historical records tell me that 9/22 or so is when I saw my last hummer last year. I will not be surprised if that date is earlier this year. Everything has happened earlier this year.
