Another roost found at Riverside Public School in Mississauga. After finding the first roost that left to cross Lake Ontario with the better weather, the students have been on the lookout for more Monarchs. On Tuesday (9/14), they were rewarded with a large group of butterflies in several of the large trees we are fortunate to have in our schoolyard. It was very exciting to see so many butterflies hunker down for the night before their trip across the lake; even more exciting were the faces of the children as they ran from tree to tree, calling out "There's more over here - come quick!"

We had 200 to 300 Monarchs in the large trees at the back of our schoolyard at afternoon dismissal. The monarchs were flashing to let the other monarchs know that this was the resting spot for tonight. Our school is only 1 block away from Lake Ontario so it was a good place to rest before heading onward.
