Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/08/2010

Number: 300

We observed hundred of Monarchs roosting and feeding these past few days at the Schlitz Audubon Nature center. They seem to like roosting in the spruce and ash trees located at the top of a bluff overlooking lake Michigan.

We saw a small one (60?) on the 8th, and then a large group (around 300) on the 9th of September. We have not seen any roosts since then (9/12). Take a look at the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center facebook page for a photo. They were way up high in a spruce tree above the lake, and had been feeding in the prairies all day. Everyone was really excited to see them up there!
