Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 09/06/2010

Number: 1

I have not seen Monarchs in my yard for most of the summer, but I found 6 eggs on milkweed in my yard on Labor Day. I brought them in to 'raise', but they have not hatched yet. This morning I could see a 'black head' on one egg, so I guess they will be hatching soon. They must have just been laid when I found them. I have about 2 dozen caterpillars at various instars feeding in my classroom which were collected at school in Nashville and from the pasture of our Gallatin, TN farm. This is not nearly as many as usual--usually there are 100's of cats at this time!
