Yesterday (9/10/10), we saw many monarchs, starting with a trip to town early in the afternoon. Within a half mile of our house, I spotted over a dozen butterflies crossing the roads. It was sunny, about 67F with a slight breeze. Then later in the afternoon we noticed more and more monarchs flying about and landing in the goldenrod weeds in the hedgerow on the east side of our house. I checked out the adjoining farmer's field of soybeans, where there were more goldenrod weeds, and I found even more monarchs. I guess I must have seen maybe 100 or so. Unfortunately, in the evening when I looked for any roosts, I didn't find any.
