Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/11/2010

Number: 1

I still have 3 resident females and occasional other females or juveniles--I can often tell when the travelers arrive because the resident females have each staked out a feeder for themselves and largely feed peacefully. When an immigrant comes in, then the battles commence. Extra feeders don't seem to stop the contests. One day this week (Tues I think) I saw 5 Ruby Throats at once. Otherwise I am mostly seeing 3 females. Occasionally the bees are chasing the hummers but most of the time the hummers prevail.
