September 13
As far as nectar sources, we have let about 3/4 acre of our property behind the barn go to wilderness. It is full of milkweed, goldenrod, dandelion, and assorted wild flowers and grasses. I also put out some of the nectar I make for hummingbirds in bright containers for the Monarchs. ( Haven't seen any drinking from them, however.)
September 9
A very windy day, started clouding up and as I ran to take the laundry from the clothesline, I noticed several Monarchs fluttering about, landing in the "usual" tree just as it started to rain. I ran and got my camera, got a decent picture. They also lighted on the tree at the front of our yard, it faces south, first time they have done that.
September 8
The upper picture below was taken on September 8th when it was cloudy and started raining (at 3:30 p.m.)
September 3
The 2nd picture below (in the same tree) was taken the 3rd of September near sunset on a nice sunny day, when they started to land in their favourite tree.
Editor’s Note: We are estimating a minimum of 24 monarchs based on observer’s photos.
