Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/09/2010

Number: 1

Looks like September 9 2010 is the last of the humming birds from this site. Also saw humming bird on September 8 2010. There has been a very low number of humming bird siteings passing through my area. We have had a very cool spring and summer and also a lot of rain. This year it seems that only one juvenial hummer was spotted at this site (very low). Hummers in the past few years have been observered here arond the later part of the first week in August or the early part of the first week. A low number of siteings this time only 13 as compared to August and September of 2008 of more than 50 (this may seem low for everyone in the central and southern USA but I think a good representative of what I would expect. We have been at this site for 33 years and have always seen hummers. One thing about this seasons hummers; they did not hardly touch the sugar water in the feeders. They only seemed interested in the nectar in the flowers. Most birds this year seemed what I call stop overs--- the stop in eat as quickly as possible, rest for a short time and then they are on their way. Only one bird this year stayed approximately 3 days and it was only interested in the agastashe, fushias, scarlet runnera and butterfly bushes. Cheers all.
