I heard the hummingbird up in the trees this morning. He will go up and sit and preen for a while. Over the weekend of 9/11 and 9/12 I observed him doing this is the apple tree for over 20 minutes. He then danced around a woodpecker as the woodpecker was going up the tree. Saw him Saturday morning on 9/11 making a bee line for the roses on my deck. He stopped mid air and hovered when he realized I was standing there. Later that evening I watched him in the front entrance of my home where he was enjoying a snack from the roses there. I can't believe he is still here! I know the neighbor has taken down their feeder, so I am sure that is why he is making himself known in my yard. We have at least a dozen butterfly bushes, roses of sharon and many flowers. I won't cut back my garden until I know he is on his way.
