Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/13/2010

Number: 1

I am not seeing anything close to the dozens of hummers mentioned by others, but I am still enjoying the few that are here. I have three that regularly come and "joust" over their territory: the feeders. First comes the female and then the males follow. They are larger than the female it seems. I so enjoy hearing their chirping and I am regulary "buzzed" as I go outside and near the feeder when I am watering my milkweed plants. The hummers came late to my yard this summer. I would say that they didn't come with regularity until mid summer. They are drinking up the nectar, too. Lots more than in years past, and I can hear them chirping in the trees as well as watch them zoom away from the feeder to sit on a nearby tree branch.
