Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/14/2010

Number: 1

I don't know if this is because of the migration across Lake Ontario or not, but we were golfing in Penfield, NY, just outside of Rochester, and at every hole we would see 2-3 monarchs. I have never seen so many....to the point that even my husband and son commented on it. Some were just resting on the greens (two or three at a time), but others were soaring back and forth over the fairways. Then a torrential downpour came as we got to the 12th hole and when we were able to go out again, they were all gone...probably drying off in the trees. I don't know if we get them as they cross Lake Ontario, but I would think that we might. It wasn't as exciting as seeing them clustered by the thousands in trees, but it was still very cool!
