Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/13/2010

Number: 300

September 15
Update from midtown Omaha, hundreds of monarchs roosted over night in my back yard trees... this morning many were flapping wings and warming up it was sunny and very small breeze and what a wonderful thing to see... by 2 pm many had taken off on the journey, how ever there are still some clusters hanging out on branches in groups of about a dozen and it is now almost 4 pm and the winds have really picked up with party cloudy skies, I will update again when they have all left on the journey.

Today (Sept. 14th) I woke up to 50 or so monarchs in the back yard. Now its almost 3 pm and there are hundreds and hundreds in my trees and my neighbors trees. It is amazing, its been a long time since I have seen this big of roost, and that is in parks, but today they are in midtown Omaha, I'm a block off dodge street close to downtown and never would I think I would see this many here..... WOW!

Editor’s Note: We are estimating a minimum 300 monarchs based on observer’s estimate of “hundreds and hundreds.”
