Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/14/2010

Number: 100

Observed at least 100 or better fly in from the East tonight to roost. Beautiful!

We have been living here for over 7 years. We live in an old farm house on 3 acres in the middle of a corn or soy field. We have watched them come to roost here over the years. One noticeable difference this year (in my mind) is that they are so BIG this year! And so many of them! I have been waiting for them this year, as the other butterflies have been incredible along with I am saddened and fear that this may be their last year here. They are currently putting 500 ft wind turbines up all around us at present. (just bases so far) 100 of them. We fought it to no avail.
Anyway...we took hundreds of pic's last night (9/14), but none reflect the numbers that we witnessed. I know it was over a hundred. They were spread out through out the property in the Elms and Pines. It was magical!! We're going to sit out there again tonight ;-)
