Today has to be a peak day for migration in this area! While my counts are never more than singles or on a good day several in a group, I saw them everywhere today. The first was checking out the gardens at daybreak, then I found 6 more in a still blooming patch of Ironweed. Three were tasting pears beneath our pear tree and through out the day driving to the lakeshore of Lake Michigan, I saw single Monarchs drifting across the freeway and down the lakeshore despite high winds. Final tally was only 25 for me, but there had to be a lot moving through that went unseen. My observation time - dawn to dusk.
