Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/09/2010

Number: 1

on September 9th, 10,000 to 15,000 monarchs were counted by members, just east of Port Burwell.

The numbers were estimated by counting and extrapolating over a three-hour period from 1 to 4pm by our Otter Vally Naturalists, so actual numbers were likely higher. Numbers passing by, not a cluster. And this was at Ron's Monarch Landing property.

The Port Burwell Provincial Park and Port Burwell Memorial Park are within the town.

We had a big cluster observed in the same evening in the Memorial Park and then watched them take off the next morning.

Monarchs are still passing by today (9/15) in strength.
