I walked past the Conservation Garden at the Virginia Living Museum where the member's plant sale was being set up. A monarch was casually nectaring on the flowers, no directional flight. my hands were full, I couldn't go grab and tag her.
VLM is rearing the monarchs to tag and release. As I cut milkweed to feed the monarch caterpillars on display, I found more eggs and tiny caterpillars. We had one butterfly emerge yesterday in the butterflyweed in front of the main building. I will tag & release it today, but it may still be a reproductive non migrant! As long as it's been warm, they still push the envelop! My observation time: I was watching for ___ hours and _.50__ minutes.
