Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/12/2010

Number: 1

This past Sunday, the 12th, we starting seeing monarchs-one by one-fly past our window through the backyard. We live literally 1 block east of the Mississippi River, by the way. The weather was beautiful that day, not too windy or cool, mid- 70's. We observed them morning through evening following the same path through our backyard, heading south, but noticed they often came from 2 or 3 different northerly directions. One flew by every 3-5 seconds. It was awesome.

In the evening the neighboring uninhabited lot directly south of us provided overnight rest in its' many large coniferous trees. I saw only a few more the next day

Editor's Note: This observer did not specify the number of monarchs present. We entered 'one' in the number field only to mark this record for future consideration.
