Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/05/2010

Number: 100

The first time I saw the roost was right around Labor Day weekend (9/05 estimated). There are usually around 50 - 100 butterflies. The fun part is when you walk up to the tree and then they fly down and surround you. Totally awesome. Not sure if they are all monarchs or combined with viceroy. There is one tree in particular in my creek line that they love, I'm thinking it's an elm or poplar. I also have milk weed and wild grapes that grow close by too. It seems to be an annual event for us.
