Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/17/2010

Number: 1

I continue to see a few Monarchs. Spotted two today feeding in the later blooming goldenrod on the back hill. Spotted one on Wednesday crossing a road. Temperatures have been cold, maybe 62 today for a high and wet and cloudy. I suspect there are more butterflies in chrysalis stage right now. I also have continued to find a few caterpillars.......two today and two yesterday, stages 4 and 5 except for one stage 3. I brought those in to give them the benefit of indoor temperatures. Have nine in various stages currently. Canadian Goldenrod thickets are done blooming. Only the individual goldenrod plants. scattered across the slopes are still good nectar sources. 50% of the milkweed leaves have turned yellow. Only about 10% are young plants.
