Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/14/2010

Number: 1

IN Beach Haven this week, I had noticed many more Monarchs than I had seen all summer, maybe 35- 50 per day . Very unusual. Then yesterday, about 4 PM, I was watching from the front porch as porch HUNDREDS of Butterflies appreared overhead. ! All in formation, flying south. From eye level to the tree tops, from the Bay to 3 blocks away at the Ocean, the sky was covered with Monarchs flying from the North. Then , more came, and more and more and more. First hundreds, then THOUSANDS, then tens of thousands. The sky was covered. What a sight!!!!!!!!! For about 20 minutes, the Monarchs were so thick , then for the next 40 minutes they kept passing but thinned out to 35- 50 at a time .

24 hours later, they were still coming, but only at a very slow rate of 10 or 15 every minute.
My observation time: I was watching for 1 hours and ___ minutes.
