Driving by a canal off Hwy 17 South on Gamble Ave. near Chatham Parkway which is just off I-16 into Savannah and I spotted Something standing with it's wings spread out. It was a Whopping Crane...big bird, white head and body and long legs with black wings. I did take a picture-they are on my pc at work will dend them next week.
Can anyone tell me how to (or if I even can) go about trying to make this location a Refuge for Wildlife. Last year as well as this year Bald Eagles have been spotted there. There are Snowy Egrets, Whopping Cranes, Owls, Red Tail Hawks, THe BIG Red Headed Woodpeckers (just to name a few) that are in and out of there (the canal)frequently. The canal is filthy-which they maybe feeding on rodants-I don't know...It is not in the greatest of locations-but I think I would be a nice NICE SIGHT OF HOPE in an otherwise dreary area of town. No matter what walk of life-WE ARE ALL IN AWE over the BEAUTY of Nature. PLEASE HELP???
