Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/18/2010

Number: 1

Time: 9:30 am, the sun was up and temperatures rising to toward 60 (it had been in mid-40's overnight). Walking in open fields with many hedge rows saw from 30 - 40 monarchs in scattered groups. The largest number (possibly 20) were feeding on the flowers of wild black raspberry bushes along a hedge row separating two fields. I believe these, and others I saw, were migrating. I have sighted monarchs all summer in the milkweed that grows prolifically in this area...but usually no more than one or two at a time on a half hour walk. My observation time: I was watching for ___ hours and _40__ minutes.
