Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/19/2010

Number: 200

September 23
Our roosting Monarchs are now all gone.

September 21
It's 6:20 p.m. and our Monarch guests in the front yard tree are still with us! I've never had them stop before and I'm fascinated by them and wonder how long they will stay. A few will fly around during the day and then settle back into one of the various large clusters. I've watched them off and on all day.

September 20
It's 10am on Monday morning. A few of the Monarchs are starting to wake up, stretch their wings, and fly around. Quite a few are still in the trees and not moving yet. I went out just as it was becoming light and observed them with the morning dew still on their wings.

September 19
The trees in our front yard are full of them. We have been seeing a few the last few days and now we have hundreds. My observation time: I was watching for __1_ hours and ___ minutes.

Editor's Note: This observer did not specify the number of monarchs present. We entered '200' in the number field based on observer’s “trees were filled with Monarchs.”
