I found a Chrysalis on a Cat Tail Reed at the Wayside Inn pond on Saturday Sept.11,2010 in Sudbury MA. and took it home. I built a netted cage for it from PVC pipe and Bridal Veil Tulle and embroidery hoops. The Chrysalis started to get darker on Sunday and at Midnight it was almost totally clear and i could see the Monarch inside. Sometime between 12:30 A.M Monday morning and 5:00 A.M. it became a Monarch and it was a healthy Male. It is Beautiful! I have fed it Bananas and sugar water and held it several times. I am going to release it in the same area Monday 9/20/2010 and hope it mates before it heads off to Migrate. What a GREAT EXPERIENCE!!
I have had the Butterfly at my home for 9 days.
