Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/20/2010

Number: 12

Tonight I sat on my front porch at 7:00 p.m. The temperature was around 60 degrees. To my surprise, I observed about a dozen monarchs all flying into the sunset over a period of a half hour. I watched several flying about treetops and land in the trees. Most were flying about 10 feet over the treetops, probably to stay in the sunlight as the sun set. I was surprised to see so many this late a night, especially as chilly as it was. I don't think I've seen that many all summer! My observation time: I was watching for _.5__ hours and _0__ minutes.
