Monarch Fall Roost

Date: 09/20/2010

Number: 200

In the early afternoon, I spotted several monarch butterflies in the backyard. Upon investigation I found hundreds resting in the trees and bushes. The school children came and were delighted to see so many at one time. Today (9/21) more were seen and they were more active with the breeze. They are a welcome sight this year as they seem to skip my yard the last 2 years. My observation time: I was watching for 3 hours.

Editor’s Note: We are estimating a minimum of 200 monarchs based on observer’s estimate of “hundreds.”
