We had a confrontation between a female or young male ruby-throat and a butterfly last evening on the feeder outside of our living room window. A fairly large butterfly (don't know what type--was brownish on its underside and blackish on its top side with some blue near bottom of its wings.) The butterfly was at the top of the feeder. Every time it would spread its wings out in a "threat" posture, the hummer would back off. This happened several times while we were watching. I "shooed" the butterfly off after a while so the hummers could feed. We still have about 5 hummers.
