Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 09/22/2010

Number: 1

After seeing no birds for three days, we suspected that we would have to wait until Spring returned to see our tiny friends again. Then, late yesterday, a female was at the feeder, and what we believe is her late hatching baby. The little one seemed completely confused as to what to do at the feeder. The adult female flew back and forth to the feeder while always staying very near. We watched for and hour, until the very last light of the day had faded. This morning, the scene repeated itself. It seemed that this mother bird was desperately trying to teach the young one to feed for itself, and it wasn't getting the concept.
