Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 09/21/2010

Number: 1

Monarchs continued to migrate westward today in Northumberland County along the north shore of Lake Ontario east of Toronto after the clouds parted and the sun came out. From about 5 pm to 6 pm I collected 135 monarchs to tag, and hence have now used up my 2010 tag supply.

An unexpected treat was an invite to join the property owners and parents visiting from Ohio for conversation about monarchs. What a neat experience to sit as the sun began to go down, looking down from the elevation that their home is built at this huge field of goldenrod and then Lake Ontario, and monarchs continuing to fly westward past us and roosting in the maple tree.

With all the caterpillars I am seeing, there are more monarchs to come. Let's hope the weather stays favourable.
