Monarch PEAK Migration

Date: 09/21/2010

Number: 1

On 9/21, north of DC, there was a steady stream of monarchs migrating right over the C&O Canal Towpath. They were flying low, between 6-10 feet off the ground.
The location was Dickerson Conservation Park, just south of the Montgomery County/Frederick County line. If they continued over the towpath, they would have gone right through Georgetown and into DC.

Nectar sources were plentiful, and included blue mistflower, tickseed sunflower, wingstem, upland boneset, several asters, and 3 species of goldenrod.
